　　出身贫寒的少女范妮·普赖斯（比莉·派佩 Billie Piper 饰）在幼年时被姨父母伯特伦爵士夫妇收养，开始了她在曼斯菲尔德庄园的寄居生活。寄人篱下的的生活，让年幼的范妮觉得自己是一个微不足道的人。然而范妮始终有着一颗坚强善良的心，明辨是非。很快，她长到18岁成为一位亭亭玉立的少女。纨绔子弟亨利·克劳福德（乔·比蒂 Joe Beattie 饰）和他的妹妹玛丽（海莉·阿特维尔 Hayley Atwell 饰）搬到曼斯菲尔德庄园，和伯特伦家族成为邻居。轻浮的亨利看上了美丽动人的范妮，开始了频繁的无理纠缠，但都被范妮毫不动摇地拒绝了。在范妮心中，一直矢志不渝地暗恋着表哥埃德蒙·伯特伦（布莱克·瑞特森 Blake Ritson 饰）。而埃德蒙却爱上了自私势力的玛丽，玛丽一心只想嫁给有钱人，对于埃德蒙的追求嗤之以鼻。当玛丽对埃德蒙“回心转意”的时候，范妮告诫表哥不要上当，范妮能否赢得埃德蒙的爱。
