简 介
中途岛战役失利直接宣布了日军在太平洋战场上的失败，负隅顽抗的日军依然坚守日本最南端的小岛—硫磺岛。这个看似不起眼的小岛，却上演了二战太平洋上最惨烈的战争。
栗林忠道中将（渡边谦 饰）是日军在硫磺岛的指挥官，负责这道日军最后的防线。栗林中将大力改革日军内部的陋习和不足，并设计出一整套对付美军、以拖延为主的作战方案。虽然他和日军的二万名官兵都上下齐心，但面对占尽空中优势的四万名美军士兵，栗林知道这将是一场没有归路的战争。
在最后的战争之前，栗林写下了他最后的家书……
