简 介
麦克是一个事业成功的白人移民律师，他和妻子克莱尔有一个十几岁的儿子罗伯托。麦克和克莱尔有一座宽敞的住宅，克莱尔热情地告诉漂亮金发保姆佩顿她计划盖一个温室。佩顿来克莱尔家工作是为了替夫报仇，其夫是一个妇科医生，因克莱尔指控他有不端行为而自杀了。但克莱尔待她就像好朋友一样。一个黑人所罗门成为这家人喜欢的仆人。一天，麦克的汽车在一个黑人居住区出了故障，遭到一群匪徒的袭击。多亏一位名叫西蒙的青年黑人司机及时相救。麦克对他十分感激。西蒙的姐姐和她十儿岁的儿子生活在匪帮活动猖獗的街区，她为儿子的前途担忧。麦克的朋友戴维斯被疯狂的匪徒抢劫，麦克的一位邻居因心脏病发作拌死。麦克自己也穿一次险些被汽车撞倒。在黑人居住区，暴行仍然畅通无阻。西蒙的家从黑人区搬到了白人区。麦克为了报答西蒙的救命之恩，为他介绍女友。西蒙曾对麦克说，他常想去大峡谷看一看。这天两家人一起到了大峡谷，在雄伟壮见的大峡谷面前，这些在大都市生活的人发出阵阵感叹。 拥有幸福美满家庭的麦可，在某次家庭聚会后，因车子抛锚误闯黑人社区时，并被黑人青年所围堵，幸好，被在汽车修理厂工作的赛门所搭救，而成为无话不谈的好友。相谈甚欢的两人，从未因不同肤色的缘故而有所芥蒂，反而更加珍惜彼此间的情谊，经常相约畅谈彼此的困扰与生活上的点点滴滴，甚至是彼此的家庭问题……
